How Much Do Vapes Cost? Prices by Device Type and per Month
Online, a complete disposable vape costs about $8 to $20 before tax, and a typical pod system costs about the same to start. That is the quick answer to “how much do vapes cost,” but the refills you buy afterward decide your monthly spend. Box mods and mod kits sit at the top of the price range.
For disposables, the puff count changes the cost per puff far more than the price tag. Pod systems and vape pens need e-liquid and replacement parts such as pods and coils. That running cost, plus the tax on your order, sets what you pay each month.
On a name-brand device, a price far below these ranges is a warning sign. You can still spend less by choosing a device that fits how often you vape. These prices are for adult buyers only: federal rules limit vape sales to people 21 and older.
How Much Does a Vape Cost?
Device type explains most of the spread in online prices between a cheap disposable and a high-end box mod. The figures below are prices in the fourth quarter of 2026, without tax or shipping.
| Device | Lowest price | Highest price | Middle price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Complete disposable vape | $7.90 | $19.99 | $16.69 |
| Pod system, full price | $6.99 | $37.99 | $16.99 |
| Vape pen kit | $13.99 | $20.99 | $16.99 |
| Box mod, device only | $25.99 | $98.99 | $39.99 |
| Mod kit with a tank | $32.99 | $73.99 | $50.99 |
Pod systems on sale can go below the range shown. Every refillable device then needs refills on top of its price, so the sticker price is only your first cost.
Disposable Vape Prices by Puff Count
At VapeSourcing and PerfectVape, most complete disposables cost $13 to $20, while their puff count runs from 1,500 to about 100,000.
- Under 20,000 puffs: $7.90 for the 1,500-puff Geek Bar Meloso Mini and $14.89 for the 15,000-puff Geek Bar Pulse.
- 20,000 to 39,999 puffs: $13.79 to $17.99 (middle price $16.19).
- 40,000 to 59,999 puffs: a middle price of $16.69 across 21 devices.
- 60,000 puffs and up: $11.99 to $19.99 (middle price $16.70).
More rated puffs buy more vaping for about the same money. So your cost per puff falls as the count rises.
Treat the rated count as a ceiling, because boost mode cuts it sharply on some devices.
Liquid volume is a steadier guide to value. Compare two devices with the same nicotine strength:
- RAZ Vue 50K: 13 mL of e-liquid for $19.49 at 5% nicotine.
- Lost Mary Nera 70K: 24 mL of e-liquid for $18.99, also at 5%.
Disposables have also grown. A Tobacco Control study of NielsenIQ retail data shows the average unit price rising from $8.49 in January 2020 to $14.07 in September 2022, as liquid per device grew from 1.1 mL to 5.7 mL.
Pod Systems, Vape Pens and Mods
Pod systems cost about as much as one disposable. A mod costs two to three times more.
- Budget pod systems: $6.99 to $8.99, such as the Joyetech eGo Nano and the Uwell Caliburn G5 Lite.
- Mid-range pod systems: $22.99 to $24.99, including the SMOK Novo 6 and the Vaporesso XROS 5.
- High-capacity pod systems: $33.99 to $37.99, such as the SMOK Nord 6 with 3,800 mAh.
- Vape pens: $13.99 for the Joyetech eRoll Slim Pro and $20.99 for the eGo AIO.
A bare box mod still needs a tank and coils, so the kit price is the fairer one to hold up against a pod system.
Running Costs After the First Purchase
Refillable devices keep costing money after the first purchase. Three items make up that running cost:
- Bottled e-liquid: $8.41 to $11.89 for 30 mL of nicotine salt, and $10.95 to $12.74 for 100 mL.
- Replacement pods: $2.99 to $14.99 for a pack of one to four, or about $3 per pod.
- Coils: $5.99 to $13.99 a pack, usually with five coils, or about $2.36 per coil.
Pod size runs from 2 mL in the SMOK Novo X to 6 mL in the Vaporesso ECO Nano. A larger pod needs filling less often.
In one store's catalog, pod liquid is labeled nicotine salt and sold mostly in 30 mL bottles, while bigger bottles of 60 mL to 120 mL rarely carry the salt label and cost less per mL.
Cost per Puff and Cost per Month
Both measures let you compare devices of different sizes on one scale.
Cost per 1,000 Puffs
Divide the price by the rated puffs, then multiply by 1,000. The result puts a small disposable and a large one on the same footing.
| Disposable | Price | Rated puffs | Per 1,000 puffs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Geek Bar Pulse | $14.89 | 15,000 | $0.99 |
| Geek Bar Burj | $17.79 | 80,000 | $0.22 |
| RYL Vue, normal mode | $17.90 | 70,000 | $0.26 |
| RYL Vue, boost mode | $17.90 | 35,000 | $0.51 |
The Burj costs $2.90 more, yet each puff costs far less. Rated puffs are a maximum, so your real cost per puff is higher.
Bottles compare best per mL. Liquid in a disposable costs about $0.86 per mL, while bottled nicotine salt costs about $0.31. Compare them only at the same nicotine strength.
Monthly Cost at 20 mL and 40 mL
Your monthly cost depends on how much e-liquid you use. Here, light use means 20 mL a month and regular use 40 mL.
- Disposables: 20 mL devices at $14.79 to $19.99 each.
- Pod system: a $16.99 kit plus one $9.34 bottle of 30 mL for every 20 mL you use.
- Pods: one $7.99 pack of two pods a month; adjust this to how often you replace yours.
| Monthly use and device | First month | Each later month |
|---|---|---|
| Light use, disposables at the low end | $14.79 | $14.79 |
| Light use, disposables at the high end | $19.99 | $19.99 |
| Light use, pod system | $34.32 | $17.33 |
| Regular use, disposables at the low end | $29.58 | $29.58 |
| Regular use, disposables at the high end | $39.98 | $39.98 |
| Regular use, pod system | $43.66 | $26.67 |
At light use, a pod system lands inside the disposable range after month one, so a refillable device saves little. At 40 mL, it saves you about $3 to $13 a month. Both totals exclude tax and shipping and assume a matching nicotine strength.
What Drives the Price of a Vape?
Four things explain most price gaps between two vapes. Capacity drives the price tag less than you might expect.
- Capacity: a higher puff count hardly moves the sticker price, since typical prices in each tier from 20,000 puffs up stay between $16.19 and $16.70.
- Device class: power and battery size lift a pod system from $8.99 to $33.99, and a mod adds a tank and coils.
- The store: the Geek Bar Pulse X2 50K cost $19.99 at one store and $15.75 at another on the same day.
- State tax: some states add a vape tax on top of the shelf price, while others build it in.
Store gaps were not a one-off. Four of five models sold by both stores were cheaper at the same store that day, so compare prices when you order.
Taxes and Delivery Costs at Checkout
Where a state charges a retail vape tax, the price on a product page comes before that tax. These costs can raise it:
- California: a 12.5% excise tax on the retail price of nicotine vapes, on top of sales tax, or $2.50 on a $20.00 order.
- New York: a 20% supplemental sales tax on vapor products, or $4.00 on the same order, plus sales tax.
- Store-paid tax: state and local excise taxes are due from an online store before the package leaves its warehouse, so tax shows in the price or on its own line.
- Delivery: VapeSourcing delivers free in the US from $95 and works out a charge for smaller orders at checkout, while ECigMafia's free offer starts at $100, with conditions marked on its site.
- Accessories: a charger or spare pods cost extra.
These tax rates applied in the fourth quarter of 2026. Rates change, so check the rate in your own state for a large order.
Each order also comes with an age check. The store verifies your age when you order, and the carrier needs an adult signature and photo ID at the door.
Some stores sell only to the states they name, and several states ban flavored vapes. A cheap flavor may not be one you can order.
Why a Price Far Below the Range Is a Warning Sign
The lowest prices in this guide belong to clearance pod systems at $5.90 and a 1,500-puff disposable at $7.90. A name-brand disposable with a high puff count that sells far below the usual range deserves a closer look.
Fakes and unauthorized products both reach the market, and they are separate problems. FDA and U.S. Customs and Border Protection seized 4.7 million unauthorized vaping products worth $86.5 million in Chicago, in a seizure announced in September 2025.
- Check the code: a maker's security code shows that a device is genuine and says nothing about its FDA status. Geek Bar, for one, puts a scratch-off label on the side of the box, and each code can be verified once on its website.
- Use the maker's own site: Geek Bar warns about lookalike domains it calls “Not Geekbar” and notes that packaging may vary by region, so the box proves little on its own.
- FDA status: none of the disposables priced on this page, genuine or not, is among the 48 vape products FDA has authorized, all tobacco or menthol flavored, and authorization does not mean a product is safe.
Ways to Spend Less on a Vape
You spend less when the device fits how often you vape:
- Daily use: a pod system with bottled nicotine salt, since that liquid costs about a third as much per mL as the liquid in a disposable.
- Disposables: devices rated at 60,000 puffs and up cost about $0.22 per 1,000 puffs, compared with $0.65 at 20,000 to 39,999.
- Modular disposables: a RAZ Vue 70K refill pod costs $12.99, compared with $19.99 for the full kit, and such pods save $2.00 to $7.15 per refill.
- Combined orders: one larger order can reach a store's free-delivery threshold and avoid a separate fee.
- Spare supply: a backup bottle saves you an unplanned disposable when you run out.
Choosing a Device by Budget and Use
Set your budget by how much you vape, then choose the device:
- Occasional use: one disposable at a time keeps your outlay lowest.
- Around 40 mL a month: a refillable pod system costs less from the second month.
- Disposables: check the cost per puff and the boost-mode count next to the sticker price.
- Checkout: add state tax and any order fee to the listed price.
- Very low prices: verify a name-brand device before you use it.
How We Gathered Store Prices
We compared five vape price guides with public store pages in October 2026, mostly those of VapeSourcing and PerfectVape, with more prices from EJuice Connect and ECigMafia. We gathered prices from the first page of each category, excluding tax and fees, so in-store prices can differ.
The per-puff figures and the monthly table are our own math from those prices. For the two states, each tax rate is taken from that state's tax agency. Where guides disagree, as on gas-station prices, this guide gives no figure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Disposable Vape Cost Less Than a Pod System?
Not on day one: both cost about the same online, with nearly identical typical prices before tax. After the first month, a pod system with bottled e-liquid costs less for heavier users, while for light users it lands inside the disposable range.
Is $20 Enough for a Basic Device?
Yes, for the device alone: the disposables and typical pod systems priced here cost under $20 before tax. The catch is that an order that small falls below the $95 and $100 minimums that two stores set for free delivery, and state tax can push a $19.99 disposable past $20.
Is There a Standard Gas-Station Price for Vapes?
No. Official statistics do not track vape prices at gas stations or convenience stores, and the price guides that quote them disagree. At the counter, compare the shelf price with a store website's price for the same model and puff count.
Is a Higher Puff Count Always Better Value?
No. More rated puffs lower the cost per puff on paper, yet the count is a maximum. PerfectVape lists the HorizonTech 100K at about 100,000 puffs in regular mode and 60,000 in boost. Price the device by the mode you plan to use.
Can a Zero-Nicotine Disposable Cost More?
Yes. One store sold the iJOY XP50000 for $14.79 with 5% nicotine and $16.99 without nicotine. Zero-nicotine versions are separate items with their own price.
Do Online Orders Add Tax or Fees?
Yes, in states that tax vapes, and the rate depends on your state. Orders below a store's free-delivery minimum can also pay a fee.
Is Vaping Cheaper Than Smoking?
Not by a fixed amount. Your monthly vape cost turns on how much you vape and which device you use, so set it against your own cigarette spend. Price says nothing about health, though: the CDC notes that e-cigarettes are not safe.
Is the List Price on a Store Page What You Pay?
No. EJuice Connect showed a 120 mL bottle on sale at $12.48 with a list price of $55.99. Some store pages also show two prices without naming the sale price, so go by your cart total.
